What's a Good American History Movie? Topic: Writing an essay on film

Question: I need to write an essay on a movie about American history and I need to analyze it for historical accuracy. Does anybody know a good movie about American History that is at least somewhat historically accurate? Preferably with characters that existed in real life. Thanks!

The movie "Glory" is the most accurate American history movie made (according to my US History teacher). It stars Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick. Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XuUGD7aa... "Frost/Nixon" is also a very good film. I assume it is a pretty accurate account of the Nixon interviews on Watergate with talkshow host David Frost. (I don't know if this is an issue, but its rated R for a couple cuss words, nothing else. Honestly should've been PG-13). Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP_l2IFiQ... "Milk" is also based on a true story. This is in 1970s San Francisco and it tracks the campaign of the first openly gay city supervisor, Harvey Milk, played by Sean Penn (who won an Oscar for best actor). Absolutely a great story and great film. (Rated R: This one does have some strong language, mild violence, and some sexuality, but nothing that's too concerning). Actually, this country was not a full fledged democracy until the 20th century. In the early 1900s there was an amendment that passed that allowed the people to elect their own Senator. This country was built on Republic ideals and was supposed to have stayed that way. Look it up for yourself, you'll be surprised.

How about Gettysburg about the Battle of Gettysburg. It's pretty entertaining, is based around real historical figures and IMDB has a list of historical inaccuracies under Goofs.

The Untouchables, and there's another Kevin Costner movie about JFK, I think it's titled JFK. Modern History is important because it affects our current society the most. Both take some liberty with facts, perspective, and opinion for entertainment purposes, and a bit of social engineering, but most movies do; so either one will give you lots of opportunity for your paper.

Gettysburg! I will never forget sitting in the theater watching the battle starting up, there was a long line of cannons. One cannon went off, then another, but I was busy looking around--the sound of the ball went over my head and it crashed into something behind me! That was the first time I had ever experienced "surround a sound"! (alas, I can't have that here at home!) "Tucker" the story of the man who tried to invent and then sell the Tucker car. He starts out well, with high hopes. Unfortunatly, the Big Three takes offence at this little interloper.... "Seabiscuit" the story of a famous racehorse! The poor pony didn't start out well, until he was bought by a man who found a trainer who had a new idea on how to train a horse. A year or two later, he was burning up the tracks in California.... "Tora, Tora, Tora". A movie about Pearl Harbor that was made in the late 60's, early 70's. It covers both sides of the battle with the brooding Japanese Admiral to the clueless American general in Hawaii. It is a re-enactment, and it takes more than two hours to tell. "Midway" another WWII film. Ships gather around the little Midway islands after Pearl Harbor. Who will win? Japanese? American? This film is two hours long, unlike the longer film mentioned above.
