Is free will really in the bible? Topic: Free forms for writing a will

Question: I personally don't believe in Free Will from a logical and psysics standpoint. It seems to me that the Bible agrees with me in the matter in a number of verses. Sorry this is so long. Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Act 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. (This says those who were chosen [ordained] believed.) Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) Rom 9:12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Rom 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Rom 9:18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Rom 9:19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Rom 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: Eph 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Even good works were prepared in advanced by God to do?) 2Thes 2:13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. (Here we see that people were from the beginning God chose you and you were predetermined to believe in the truth.) So do these verses say we have no free will? Or what verses say that we do? Thanks. Ableppo, I'm not saying that you can't make choices, but that there is only one possible choice that you could make. It is a complicated theory of cause and effect, but there are many reasons why someone would make a particular choice, but there are no choices made without reasons. krazyabouthim: i don't know. does 'his image/likeness' imply he would also impart you with freewill? It doesn't necessarily have to I would think. it doesn't also specify that God has freewill does it? although we often take this for granted too and I don't really want to debate about that. Jim, how am I confusing foreknowledge with fate? Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? Isn't that clear enough? Also, if God made Pharaoh's heart hard, why couldn't he have made Adam's heart hard or Eve's? Why couldn't he have made them a vessel of dishonour? Or if you look at it from a cause and effect point of view, you don't think Eve ate the apple for no reason do you? Surely there was a reason for her to eat the apple, some reason that overpowered her reasoning. What do you suppose those causes were? Nobody makes choices without reasons. Sometimes we make bad choices but we always do the best with the knowledge we have at the time. Jim, If I am holding in my urine, surely there is a reason I am holding it in. Am I in the middle of a conversation and don't want to appear rude? Am I holding it in because you told me to? Why don't I just get up and go to the bathroom? Surely there must be a reason why I am holding in my urine? Are you telling me I am holding in my urine for no reason?

I agree with you, free will isn't in the Bible. The concept was invented during the Enlightenment.

There is a download program called "Online Bible" and despite the name, you don't have to be "online" to use it. There are a huge number of modules for it. Download it from here: http://www.onlinebible.net/ There are more modules written for OLB that you will find here: http://www.fundamentalbaptists.com/host/... You can pick and choose which modules you want to download. Some of the Bible versions are keyed to Strong's numbers. OLB also allows you to do a reverse search based on Strong's numbers so that you can find all occurances of a root word independant of the several different ways the word may have been translated into English. And digging deeply into what the Bible says will always involve an investigation into how a particular word has been used throughout the Bible. Follow the threads through the Bible and see how many ways the same aspects are used. The OLB has many translations available, so if you are having problems understanding what a particular verse is saying you can quickly and easily compare it to other translations and see how the wording is translated in them so that you can get the sense of what the original text might have been trying to get across. Some of these modern translations are under copyright and you have to pay extra for (the New American Standard, New Revised Standard, New International Version, etc). Typically these modules are $10 to $15 extra and there is an 800 number that you can call to get the key to unlock these. But as you look through the sites listed above you will find that there are a huge number of free modules. There are translations, Bible dictionaries, libraries of books and commentaries that are all available to you for free. Of course, the drawback is that most of the Bible was written down by men who were Jewish (except for perhaps Luke and there is even some debate about him) so any digging into the Bible that you do, will, by default, be a "Jewish Bible Study". Sorry, but that is unavoidable.

God did no longer supply us the Bible. It became into written completely via adult adult males. The Bible nicely-knownshows extra relating to the non-public and political agendas of it is priestly authors than it does relating to the the so referred to as certainty. The Bible is particularly no longer the be attentive to God. If God particularly had to write down a e book Jesus might have executed it Himself and there may well be no questions approximately it. it would additionally be an exceedingly different e book. real capability lies interior the palms of people who write historic previous and create the mythos upon which a society relies. In Biblical situations this became into the priesthood. They and the scribes they experienced have been the only literate contributors of society. the least complicated thank you to maintain human beings (women persons, slaves and the different 2d classification voters) of their place is to declare that God ordained it that way and then produce a e book to coach it. no be counted how stimulated the authors have been or via what source, the information had to clear out via their minds and personalities. The Bible became into written via adult adult males immersed in an historic patriarchal custom. all of them had agendas, even if if it became into retaining the social order, unifying doctrine, removing heresy or gaining converts. After analyzing it for years i've got concluded that it is a surprisingly sparkling piece of propaganda. What I do fee interior the Bible is the story of Christ's life and teachings. i think of He knew how misinterpreted and manipulated words can grow to be and consequently lived in a trend that could enable us to maintain on with in His footsteps in spite of what every physique wrote approximately Him. The links below objectively factor the origins of the Bible (a million & 2) besides because of the fact the inconsistencies and inaccuracies (3)

1) Is free will really in the bible? Clearly. God instructed Adam, "you can eat any fruit - yep, ANY fruit at all - except for the fruit from that ONE PARTICULAR tree. If you eat that one, you'll die." I think you know what Adam did. If Adam had no free will, he would not have been able to disobey God. 2) About predestination... You seem to be confusing foreknowledge with fate. Let's say I know you well enough to *know* that you are going to do something at some future moment in time - say, that I *know* that you are going to go to the bathroom shortly after drinking a morning cup of coffee. Is there *at any time* any reason that you cannot choose to hold it in? To wait an hour or more? God knows what we will choose to do - but it is STILL we who choose to do those things. The foreknowledge that one individual has of others in NO WAY restricts the freedom of choice those others have. You are, in a sense, putting the cart before the horse. It's not, "if God knows what I will choose, then I have no choice". It's, "I always have a choice, but God knows me so well that he knows what I will decide before I have actually made that choice". we are made in God's image/likeness. God has freewill, why if we are like him would we not, that would negate the likeness or image of. Genesis 1:27 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Nah, either the Christian god knows what you're going to do before you do and punishes you in hell for doing what he knew you were going to do, or you have free will and the Christian god is not all powerful. It can't be both.

If Mohammad was a prophet why did he fail the test of prophet hood? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * MOHAMMAD FAILED THE TEST OF PROPHET HOOD, if muhammad's allah was true, it would have informed him about the poisoned goat, which later led to his death. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Ibn Sa'd page 249: Verily a Jewish woman presented poisoned (meat of) a she goat to the apostle of Allah. He took a piece form it, put it into his mouth, chewed it and threw it away. Then he said to the Companions: "Halt! Verily, its leg tells me that it is poisoned." Then he sent for the Jewish woman and asked her; "What induced you to do what you have done?" She replied, "I wanted to know if you are true; in that case Allah will surely inform you, and if you are a liar I shall relieve the people of you." **PROPHET HOOD FAILED**: The question here is weather allah told muhammad that the goat is poisoned or not? CLEARLY NOT, as he had to put it in his mouth. Quran says "if you are true; in that case Allah will surely inform you" {muhammad would not eat the goat and he would not die} but because allah NEVER informed him, and muhammad was a liar he ate it and he died, just as the verse says "if you are a liar I shall relieve the people of you." After all this even if Muhammad knew that it was poisoned, and he still put it (goat) in his mouth, he committed suicide. And if he came to know after chewing it, its nothing special as anybody would know after they chewed it, no need for special powers. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mohammad being a false prophet did not perform any miracle. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Qur'an very clearly says of Muhammad that he performed no signs. In Surah 6.37, when Muhammad's adversaries say "Why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord?", Muhammad is bidden to reply merely that God could send one if he wanted to but had not done so. In the same Surah we read that Muhammad said, "I have not that for which you are impatient" (Surah 6.57), meaning signs and wonders such as Moses had. He goes on to say that if he had had them, the dispute between him and them would have been decided long ago. Failed prophet = false book. The quran is thus lies.
