do you have a favorite poem of his? or favorite chunk of prose? teachers love to see that as the beginning sentences. it sets the mood.... dont use the Raven tho, it WAAAAY over used. i.e. ...While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door—.... and so begins the saga of Edgar Alan Poe. Poe was (describe his accomplishments) and yet (and his humbling moment or two). He was a man of great character. In my research, I focused on (list your 3 topics for the body of your paper) career health and loves and how they affected his writing. dont write like other people, be creative. English teachers love to read good research papers.

Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American poet, short-story writer, editor, and literary critic, and is considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the early American practitioners of the short story and invented the detective-fiction genre. He is also credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction.[1] He was the first American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.[2] He was born Edgar Poe in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents died when he was young; he was taken in by John and Frances Allan, of Richmond, Virginia, who never formally adopted him. After spending a short period at the University of Virginia and a briefly attempting a military career, Poe and the Allans parted ways. Poe's publishing career began humbly, with an anonymous collection of poems, Tamerlane and Other Poems (1827), credited only to "a Bostonian".

Long before there were movies like "Saw", long before there were bands like "Marilyn Manson", and long before there were haunted houses at Halloween, there was Edgar Allen Poe. The public has always been fascinated and mesmerized by horror stories, and Poe filled a needed niche.
