Waitress screw up, my funds on hold. When do I get them back?

Waitress screw up, my funds on hold. When do I get them back? Topic: Online case status check
May 22, 2019 / By Finola
Question: Went to a restaurant Friday with friends and my original bill comes up to $12.10, as expected. Okay I give my debit card to the waitress with my ticket slip and she comes back with two slips (since she ran it as credit) with it saying $31.50. I bring this to her attention and give her back the slips and she apologizes and rings up my correct ticket, which I add tip and sign. I didn't sign the incorrect slip. Now I come home and I see that the $31.50 had been deducted from my account but is currently "PENDING". Anyone have this happen? & how long does it take before the funds are returned to the account?

most restaurants run through POS systems. it is connected online to banks. if someone runs your card your bank statement for that "purchase" has a status of pending because it is left open in case you leave a tip. once it is finialized (closed) it should say something like debit transaction and list the address it was used on your statement. The waitress should have deleted the transaction. and she should have brought you the copy of the void recipt for your records. If it takes a long time for the company to delete the transaction it may say processed or PENDING. If that is the case then the bank is checking to see what is going on and making sure not to leave that money in your available balance so that you do not go into the negative. the money should be back into your account within 24-48 hours after the transaction. it depends on the type of bank you have. if your statement goes from pending or processing to debit transaction you need to A: call your bank and tell them what is going on and B: call the restaurant and explain the mistake i know youre probably pissed about it but just try to keep in mind that it was probably busy. waitressing is a little more stressful than some people think GOOD LUCK!

It is not "right." The law sets out the maximum time they can hold a check, there is no minimum. Not all banks hold your checks for the maximum time period. My bank makes funds available as soon as possible. If your bank is holding your checks for too long, change banks. Find one that makes funds available as soon as possible. I have never had a check held for more than 2 or 3 days. Good luck.

That is why you are suppose to write checks with an "available" balance. Unless its direct deposit or cash there is a hold. Use this as a learning tool and make sure what you have in your account before writing a check. This is once again an example of YOU not taking responsibility for your actions. The bank is a processing center they are not your private bankers that service costs extra...

It wasnt made to create jobs, it was for kickbacks and pet programs, the companies we keep bailing out are still failing, and he has the audacity to ask for more money still, especially after the AIG bonus scandal where they lied about knowing that the execs were going to get bonuses. Libertarian, Male. EDIT "had Obama and the Democrats passed the stimulus that they wanted, we would really have seen big dividends, but in an effort to appease the selfish party they watered it down and it was really too small." --- Lol the audacity of these people, its never enough, they want to get more credit cards and borrow MORE money, monotize MORE debt, no republicans voted for the stim bill and I am glad because they need to grow some nuts since theyve been hiding them lately.

The stimulus was only about 25% of the money doled out. Check out this short article on the matter. http://americanaffairs.suite101.com/arti...

I agree, there does not seem to be any focus on putting people back to work. I would think that it would be apparent that in order to fix the economy, people have to go back to work. People who do not have a job will not pay taxes, buy cars, buy houses, contribute to 401-K or purchase any extras.
