Quoting shakespear in a book with quotes how do i cite? Topic: Quotes about writing a book
July 19, 2019 / By Erykah
Question: I want to quote Shakespear's " We know who we are, but know not what we may be" to open up my paper (attention grabber) But i got it out of a book of millions of quotes so how do i cite that in my paper? I'm hoping it's Shakespeare once wrote” We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”(Henry 144). But instead of that i just want to open up with the quote... would it be then? "We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”-Shakespeare (Henry 144). Please help!!!

I think The first one: Shakespeare once wrote "We know what we are, but know not what we may be." (Henry 144). Sounds like you are about to talke about it, the second one just doesn't sound right. It's like a definite ending.

Yeah if it is from the same article, you only need to do the citing once, but you should do footnotes at the end of each of the paragraphs to link to the article source.

I would say, cite both paragraphs to be safe. You really can never be too safe when you're working on a research paper.

My teachers always have me cite both paragraphs. Unless you do this one thing, that I don't want to explain.

I don't know about opening with a stand-alone quotation. I guess I'd have to see the context. Still, does your teacher/professor allow footnotes instead of parenthetical? Then it would be like this: "We know what we are, but know not what we may be." [a tiny "1"] Then, after the corresponding "1" at the bottom of the page, you would cite the source. I think it looks cleaner that way, but you have to know what your teacher/professor expects. If not, I'd go with the first example: As Shakespeare once wrote, "We know what we are, but know not what we may be" (Henry 144).

This Site Might Help You. RE: What are some good brother/sister quotes, or adoption quotes? I am in reunion with my older brother who was given up for adoption. We just met 4 months ago, and I had just found out about him even existing. We have become close, and I am looking for some good upbeat quotes about the connection of a brother and sister.
