Jehovah's witnesses, how do you deal with all of the failed prophecies of the Watchtower society? Topic: Dos command case statement

Question: Ever since the 1800's Charles Taze Russel's organization has been making prophesies about the return of Christ and the millennial kingdom and armageddon and all sorts of things. In 1975 almost 400,000 people left the Watchtower society because of a failed prophesy. Does it bother you that the organization who you believe to be God's does not prophesy truthfully? Deuteronomy 18:20-22 "20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.' 21And if you say in your heart, 'How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?'— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. @ conundrum: The truth is never threatened by a question, but a lie always is. @ a measured brush: You might want to check out a publication put out by the Watchtower society in 1974 called "Kingdom Ministry." Specifically the May issue, page 3.

I know I should ignore you, but OK, I'll bite, just in case you are sincere and simply mis-informed. I was baptized in 1978 when I was twenty, but I had associated with Jehovah's Witnesses from 1958 when my mother, a former Catholic, began to study the Bible. So yes, I was around in 1974 and before that. First of all there was no phophesy . There was no statement in any publication as to to anything that was expected to happen in 1975. What was stated is that 1975 marked 6, 000 years of man's existence according to Bible chronology . That's it. No prophesy. I remember going to what we call a "circut assembly"in the fall of 1974 and it was specifically stated that we were not saying that anything would happen in 1975. My personal opion at the time was to the contrary. I expected that something would happen because if Armageddon came then and the thousand year rule afterward then together that would make 7,000 years. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society was not wrong in anything they said. I was wrong in what I expected. Some people were not humble enough to admit that they were wrong too and so they left. Some of them came back when they realized that there is no truth anywhere else. The same thing happened to Christians in the first century. The Apostles were mistaken in some of their expectations but that did not make them false prophets (Acts 1:6-7) 6 When, now, they had assembled, they went asking him: “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” 7 He said to them: “It does not belong to YOU to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction; . As I said before I was baptized in 1978. I worked at a library at the time on a college campus where seminary courses were taught so there were some good reference resources. I decided to research on my own what the truth was, and so I picked one topic, the Trinity, and compared the argument by those who are for it, and the argument against it. I also examined the quotes used by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to see if they were truthful and accurate. There really was no doubt as to where the truth is on this matter. The Trinity doctrine is a lie, and the bigger lie is to claim that the Bible teaches it, or agrees with it. That was when I made the commitment to get off the fence. So the question you asked isn't valid. There are no false prophesies, and no failed ones.

Kasper Originally Answered: Why are Jehovah's Witnesses here, but not willing to address real issues with the Watchtower Society?
The followers of the Society are unable to answer because the group of men in New York have never addressed those questions. They are only able to address questions they have been given the answers to (one explanation why so many copy and paste straight from the magazines). There is no individualism in their thoughts. They do not have the permission from this group of men to answer without the aid of their magazine and reinforced teachings at the assemblies. I recognize how frustrating this is...if a Society member actually begins to think and to question on their own without the aid of these guidelines they will leave. That is why they are warned over and over again that they are not to have independent thinking, or even attempt to study the Bible without their teaching aides. In fact they are told they should NEVER expose themselves to the apostate teachings because they will leave "Jehovah's organization".

You said, 'In 1975 almost 400,000 people left the Watchtower society'. Well, not me, and not anyone if my family. We are STILL here, because we follow Jehovah God not an organization. Keep in mind that Charles Taze Russel was used to accomplish God's will, he is not the 'founder' of Jehovah's Witnesses, there have ALWAYS been servants of Jehovah, and there ALWAYS will be, which explains why our preaching has not stopped since it started again in the early 1900's. The same Bible students you try to denounce are the same ones who discerned the significance of the year 1914. 'SOME' of them assumed that this year had 'ADDITIONAL' significance, but this was cleared up, but they were correct about this year and its identifying the year of Christ enthronement. But it is of note that we also discerned that certain practices were incorrect (Christmas, Birthdays, Cross etc) and changes were made. But this was done DECADES ago. But how many other religious organizations have discerned the significance of such practices????? So apparently, regardless of how you may try to throw rocks at the ocean, the Watchtower organization is still LEAPS and BOUNDS past others in this regard. Who is known across the globe for their preaching work?? Besides Mormons (who preach for a 'set time') Jehovah's Witnesses undeniable make up the largest and most efficient preaching effort in the WORLD. And just as Matthew 24:14 says the good news of God's Kingdom WILL be preached. But WHO is preaching it?? Jehovah's Witnesses are. So again, regardless of how you slice it, we would STILL be at the VERY least 'closer' than ANY OTHER organization to fulfilling this prophecy despite the constant opposition. If this is not a clear indicator of Jehovah's blessing, than I don't know what is. Are you a part of an organization that is preaching in more than a hundred languages in more that 200 lands??? If you are not, then logic would dictate that you have no room to criticize us. That would be equivalent to the snail calling the rabbit slow. You can ask all the questions you want, and we will continue to preach.

what is all this nonesense about charles taze russell on here?? we are jehovahs witnesses not taze russells before that we were international bible students. what many people dont realise is that russell did get a lot of things right, however he misunderstood some things but he did try to use the bible he wasnt trying to heap praise on himself. ive had a look at that kindom ministry so what?????????????????? it doesnt mention that there will be anything happen in 1975 and the society didnt actually say it would, it said they wouldnt be surprised or words to that affect somewhere but they didnt say it would. so if you went to the dr and the dr said you have a 24 hr virus and i wouldn be surprised if it cleared up then but the virus went to be 72 hrs so what your question is so foolish. if people left the organization because of a day in mind then they dont deserve jehovah god. it says in the bible that no man knows the day or the hour. btw i have never known one bro/sis leave the truth because of 1975.

The fact there writing long answers to try and explain why there teachings such as 1914 and others are not Prophecies should tell you a lot. Take notice how in union they all have the same wording which only cult members generally do. I studied on two different occasions with them and like you i thought much of what they taught made sense. what scared me for lack of a better term was how people such as a late brother in law who went from a open minded person before he joined them to a closed minded one with a almost zombie like attitude when discussing religion came up. It was like some one else was talking for him. Your suspicions are right and listen to them and read the site that unsilenced lioness has given you.

(REMAINED) FAITHFUL 2 Jehovah God's "Modern-Day" (TRUE) Organization Shortly AFTER 1975 have been the >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> . MOST BLESSED by Jehovah God for their Loyalty to the God of Deuteronomy Chapter 18 ! p.s. I Was there through the Whole 1975 Experience & I AM "Still" One of Jehovah's Witnesses; & Was Truly Blessed & Protected Over the Years as a Result ! . . . . .

Alton Originally Answered: Jehovah's Witnesses.why does the Watchtower Society discourage marriage and children?
Either the Witnesses here are outright lying or have very short memories, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and jog their memories a bit: http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/quotes/marriage-child-bearing.php Watchtower 2008 Apr 15 p.19 Single and childless for a Noble purpose. "... numerous couples have decided to remain childless ... to remain free to serve Jehovah ... putting Kingdom interests above some of the privileges that go with marriage ... Jehovah will not forget their work, and the love they show for his name... There will be a great tribulation ... it will be difficult time for us adults and children alike ..." Watchtower 2000 August 1 p.21 Why Do They Have No Children? "Although Noah's three sons were all married, none fathered children until after the Deluge. While this does not imply that it is wrong to have children today, many Christian couples decline to have children so as to become more fully involved in the urgent work that Jehovah has given his people to do. Some couples have waited for a time before having children; others have decided to remain childless and consider the possibility of bearing children in Jehovah's righteous new world." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Awake! 1974 November 8 p.11 "Today there is a great crowd of people who are confident that a destruction of even greater magnitude is now imminent. The evidence is that Jesus' prophecy will shortly have a major fulfilment, upon this entire system of things. This has been a major factor in influencing many couples to decide not to have children at this time. They have chosen to remain childless so that they would be less encumbered to carry out the instructions of Jesus Christ to preach the good news of God's kingdom earth wide before the end of this system comes. -Matt.24:14." Children (1941) 3,000,000 ed. pp.312-313 "Should men and women, both of whom are Jonadabs or "other sheep" of the Lord, now marry before Armageddon and bring forth children? They may chose to do so, but the admonition or advice of the scriptures appears to be against it. Face the Facts (1938) pp.46-50 "Would it be Scripturally proper for them to now marry and to begin to rear children? No, is the answer, which is supported by the Scripture . Those Jonadabs who now contemplate marriage, it would seem, would do better if they wait a few years, until the fiery storm of Armageddon is gone..." Watchtower 1938 November 1 p.324 "...mark the words of Jesus, which definitely seem to discourage the bearing of children immediately before or during Armageddon Golden Age 1937 January 27 edition "That Delusion Called Love" "God's consecrated people do well to refrain from marriage unless they find themselves continually tormented with desire for sexual intercourse, in which case they should marry. For those of the younger or older who have need to marry on this score, let them dispose of the matter in candor and honesty shunning the blight, the delusions and illusions of "love" so called and courtship, which bring reproach on the holy name of Jehovah." [email protected] Cubby: Are you completely daft? or Just unable to process what you read? let me paste the paragraph from your cult literature for you again where it is telling you that it is unbiblical to marry and have children: Face the Facts (1938) pp.46-50 "Would it be Scripturally proper for them to now marry and to begin to rear children? No, is the answer, which is supported by the Scripture . Those Jonadabs who now contemplate marriage, it would seem, would do better if they wait a few years, until the fiery storm of Armageddon is gone..." If your grandparents had heeded the command above Chubby you would not be here today. But they were SURE as they are SURE now that they were in the End times,,, How many times does the WBT$ have to cry wolf before you see them for the cash cow that they are, wouldn't be a problem no skin off my @ss except that people like you are willing to let your children DIE because a publishing company tells you that God says so.
