Reformatting a hard drive to install an new OS is pretty much straightforward. Just boot from the Windows installer disc and follow the instructions. The problem you might face is that the XP installer disc might not be compatible with the version that's currently in your laptop. It could be a retail copy. In this case, you won't be able to use the OEM product key that's on the sticker under the laptop to activate your Windows. You will need to buy a new product key if it is not accepted. Also, the XP installer might be for a specific type of brand and model which contains the drivers that are not designed for your laptop. The laptop might not boot at all or will "blue screen" upon booting. I'm not sure if you will be able to fix that easily by installing the right drivers. Perhaps, what you can do is test if the recovery program is still in the special partition in the hard drive. They normally have one unless you deleted them or they were corrupted. To test if it still works, turn off the laptop, hold the zero (0) key and turn the power on. You will know from there if the recovery program still works. https://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais... If the recovery program no longer works, buy the recovery disc from Toshiba: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Reco...

Well, this is DEFINITELY not the laptop for you. You like to multi-task, and this is a slow single core processor. You are going to do photo editing in a powerful program? With a very low quality integrated graphics card? This will not do what you want, especially with no lag. Try this---> http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Laptop+/+AMD+Turion%26%23153%3B+II+Processor+/+14%22+Display+/+3GB+Memory+/+320GB+Hard+Drive+-+Biscotti/1623912.p?id=1218273846151&skuId=1623912 This has a decently fast dual-core processor, a nicer graphics card, 3 GB of RAM, and 320GB Hard Drive space. This will get the job done for 30 bucks more. Don't like this one? E-mail me at [email protected] and I find one for you. Just include price please!

The processor on this computer will slow you down. Also, you should have 4GB of RAM and a larger hard drive. I assume since it is from Walmart, cost is a factor. If you buy this computer, you probably will be unhappy. I included a link below to a better computer to meet your needs. Just copy and paste to view the details. This laptop is under $600 which is great for what you get. If you scrimp now, you will regret it later. Also, here is the web address that shows you how to buy the best computer for your needs. http://www.computercleanuptools.com/best-rated-laptop-computer.html I used the same procedure shown there to get the computer that is given to you here.

put the cd in and shut down ur pc, then boot ur pc and it will ask if u want to boot from cd, press any key to continue. You will need the key code activate windows xp. And install the drivers from toshibas website, u can see ur drivers at My computer -> properties -> device manager

I did the same thing to my HP laptop about 5 years ago and the screens were the same price as a new laptop until i found one on Ebay like you. Mine was simple to replace just opening the case to take out the broken one, disconnecting it, connecting the new one and putting the case back together. You can probably find more sites with instructions on replacing the screen if your not comfortable with the one you listed.

hey matey. I used to work for toshiba, its dead easy, make sure u've defo got the right screen for your laptop first. unscrew the screws around the screen and unclip the plastic surrounding (dont be scared to use a little force) take out the screen (careful not to damage any wireless antenna cables at this point) disconnect the screen from the power inverter ( should be a 7 cm (ish) long circuit board, very thin, and connect your new screen then screw it all back up should only take u bout 20 mins
