Topic: Recent rape case story
July 20, 2019 / By Orrell Question:
I recently posted the following answer to a post someone had made claiming that they were raped:
Ok I will reprint my answer to you the last few times you posted...
I am really starting to doubt you really want to do anything about this at all. You asked and many people answered you. but I am reprinting my answer for you anyway in case it can help someone:
Something about your question struck me as familiar, so I checked into some of your recent posts and found your story has varied wildly over about 13 different posts and on a few different forums (Law, Singles, Dating, Health, etc..).
If you are indeed going to file a police report I would suggest you get your story straight.
This is a very serious subject and I hope you are sincere about your need for help. Either way I think counseling is still a very good option for you.
EDIT - ok I see you now have changed your settings so no one can see how many times you are posting this and where. I am going to send an abuse report against you for trolling. You have asked, and you have received your answers. Now your turning this service into some sort of sick game for attention. PLEASE SEEK SOME HELP.
Yahoo Answers hit me with a Violation Notice for every repost I addressed to this person on all their postings on this topic causing me to loos alot of points.
The claim was that my response was not a question or an answer.
I sent in an appeal stating that my response gave the following anaswes:
1) If she was going to file a police report she needed to get her stories straight because her many diffrent posts were conflicting.
2) that she should seek counciling.
Thoughts on how I should further address this with the powers that be?
In case anyone was intrested:
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Answers.

I think what you said is correct but because of the nature of her questions I think Yahoo are going to tread very carefully. Some people will seek attention & when they don't like the answer or hearing the truth they lash out & report you.

Y staff do not moderate YA, WE do - we are all Community Moderators and this is the hundredth time explaining this
thousands of violations pouring in every day - there are 200 million of us and only a handful of Y employees - just think about that for a minute...
and try to figure out how fast Yahoo would have to close down YA due to it being overrun by spam and trolls, not to mention porn and extremely explicit and vulgar sexual content
trusted members EARNED that trust and the ability to delete what they report by ACCURATELY reporting thousands of violations with almost none being overturned on appeal
those who report poorly quickly lose their status at trusted members
why do you think that a Q is immune from being reported once it has a BA? - there is no statute of limitations on violations - ones from eight years ago are reportable and should be reported as no one wants to do a search and find an old post with porn or racism in it!
this is why we need to see the WHOLE post:
Who do you think the intended audience is?
What are three things the writer does to reach that audience?
What appears to be the writers purpose?
And lastly do you think the writer achieves that purpose? Why?
Best answer and ten points to whoever can all answer the questions I stated in this question :-)"
this is clearly a solicitation for homework, given the formality of the long list of questions you asked under the main header - your one answer showing in the cache is a violation but that person knows you are soliciting homework
then you defiantly posted it again but left out the list of questions, but turned it into a rant violation by lashing out at the douchebag who reported it
well, guess what, that douchebag is no douchebag but a seasoned reporter who knew this was a violation and lo and behold, you lost your appeal
145 appeals on 145 violations or 145 appeals on this one? either way, that should tell you you need to figure out what you're doing in this site
Yes it's a fair violation. That wasn't a good idea by posting an answer that publicly accuses another user of "trolling" and reporting them. Because of your actions as a result, you've exposed yourself to a "not a question or an answer." It can also be construed as insulting another user, a form of rudeness here. Regardless of either or both violations you incurred, you lost 12 points and your answer was deleted.
Appeal the violation to Customer Care if you want to, but expect it to be upheld and you'll lose an extra 10 points for filing a false appeal. The best thing you can do is to accept your punishment and move on. Forget about the appeal because it's not worth losing any more points. There's absolutely no point in addressing this matter any further. You have no recourse at all.

When is an answer not an answer?

I don't think you have any recourse. In your edit, you stated "I am going to send an abuse report against you for trolling."
Saying that you are going to report another person is a valid violation.
The best bet when you see obvious attention seekers is to ignore the question and move on. Many simply post a question or answer to solicit a response that they can subsequently report.
A good reference regarding using the term "reported" being a violation is in a YA blog entry from October 2007. The entry is titled "When is an answer not an answer".
