The evidence for evolution is and has been interpreted from a Philosophical and ideological Bias, The answers given by adherents to Evolution here in R&S is proof of the bias and agenda, Atheism has to have an alternate explanation—other than a Creator—for how the universe and life came into existence. Darwin once identified himself as a Christian but as a result of some tragedies that took place in his life, he later renounced the Christian faith and the existence of God. Evolution was invented by an atheist. What is sad is that Christians are falling into this Trap and trying to fit evolution into the Bible (Theistic Evolution) thinking they can make it fit. Lee Stroble in his video listed below “ The Case for the Creator” stated (5 min. 28 sec into the video) The Case for a Creator http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=688111496234161611# That “There is no way you can Harmonize Neo Darwinism with Christianity, I could never understand Christians who would say “ Well I believe in God yet I believe in Evolution as well” You see Darwin’s idea about the development of life led to his theory that modern science now generally defines as an undirected process completely devoid of any purpose or plan,”. Now how could God direct an undirected process? How could God have purpose in a plan behind a system that has no plan and no purpose? It just does not make sense. It didn’t make sense to me in 1966 and it doesn’t make sense to me now. The Apostle Paul wrote to His Son Timothy stating that “ in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, [because] they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn [their] ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” Those Christians who believe in evolution have no idea how that effects their theology. Actually what i noticed is that most seemed to be not strictly Liberal but called themselved middle of the road or some of both. I don't know abut half of Christianity being creationist but, at least in this country, a fair amount are. They look at their book at the ultimate guide and anything that could contradict it at all would be suspect. Pagans, being most were Christians originally, will accept evolution even if they do beleive in dieties and they tend to be more flexible in their thinking. They realize that scientific research and fact will not contradict their beliefs.

I suggest not joining any religion. It's better to stick with reality. There's no reliable evidence for God/Yahweh, Jesus, Allah, Zeus, Odin, Quetzalcoatl, Vishnu, Thor, Shiva, or any of the thousands of other gods that people have worshiped. If any of the major gods existed, there would be reliable evidence. Since no such evidence exists, these gods do not exist. There's also extensive evidence that they are all just myths, created to help soothe our fear of death, and perpetuated through religion to subjugate the underclass into obedience. Science has shown that there's no need for gods to explain the traditional reasons for a god -- origin of the universe, origin of life, origin of species, origin of humans, origin of morality. Science also shows us the psychological reasons that people believe in god(s). See the 1st link for the video, "Andy Thomson: Why We Believe in Gods" or buy his book at the 2nd link. For thousands of years, people have said that their gods were behind what they didn't understand -- life, lightning, stars, earthquakes, the origin of life, the world or the universe, etc. Positing a god to supposedly answer a question solves nothing. It just adds an unwarranted level of complexity and stops you from asking more questions. It used to be that science couldn't answer the question about the origin of the universe or of the Big Bang, but that didn't mean we should make up an answer (such as a god) and say that it was the cause. Within the last few decades scientists have discovered some good answers. Of course, a scientific explanation is more complex than simply saying, "God did it." Quantum mechanics shows that "nothing," as a philosophical concept, does not exist. There is always a quantum field with random fluctuations. There are many well-respected physicists, such as Stephen Hawking, Lawrence Krauss, Sean M. Carroll, Victor Stenger, Michio Kaku, Alan Guth, Alex Vilenkin, Robert A.J. Matthews, and Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek, who have created scientific models where the Big Bang and thus the entire universe could arise from nothing but a quantum vacuum fluctuation in the quantum field -- via natural processes. For more see the 2nd set of links. Watch the video at the 1st link - "A Universe From Nothing" by theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss, read an interview with him (at the 2nd link), get his new book (at the 3rd link), or read an excerpt from his book (at the 4th link). -

"auntb93" makes the most sense here. You have to realize that the bible is very largely allegorical and it is only the "literal-bible" fundamentalists that do not recognize that. The fact is that even the ancient Jews knew it was allegorical, they did not necessarily accept much of Genesis as history at all. Unitarian Universalism is an excellent place to start. they are a very diverse community that accepts science and embraces a broad mix of beliefs. An excellent place to start and to find a community where you can explore and find your own answers. Even the Dalai Lama once said that if science disagrees with Buddhism, go with the science. Blessings on your Journey!

You may be confused but you are not alone. Most people in the world believe in God and also believe in Science, including evolution. It is only in the United States that you have such a large number of people who think that the bible is a literal document. Frankly, I think you are on the right track.

Wow. Just make one up if you're going to write the ground rules yourself. Religion is about surrendering your own beliefs in favor of new ones. There's a level of faith required.

Science is PREDICTION based. Every time a theory is used to make a prediction and that prediction is found to be true, that is one more piece of evidence that the theory is correct. The beauty of a good theory is that it predicts well and fits a lot to all of the known data and observations. "The rigor of a science is directly proportional to its ability to predict." - John C Campbell. A theory is judged by its’ usefulness. Even theories that are flawed are kept and used. The current state of Physics is a good example: Newton: Does NOT give correct answers for cases involving speeds that are a significant fraction of the speed of light (Special Relativity,) large acceleration fields (Black Holes, etc - General Relativity), or things atom size and smaller (Quantum Mechanics). But, the math is easy and it gives very good answers for cases that do not include any of the above. Special Relativity: Does almost everything that Newton does (SR cannot handle acceleration), plus constant velocities that are a significant fraction of the speed of light, but the math is more complicated. NASA uses Newton because Einstein is NOT worth the additional computer time. General Relativity: Does everything that Newton and Special Relativity does, plus accelerated frames of reference. But, the math is very difficult and it fails at the quantum scale. Quantum Mechanics: Is useless for things larger than an atom, but dead on correct for things atom size and smaller. None of the above provides correct answers for things that are atom size and smaller and also massive/high energy (Black Holes, Big Bang, etc.) So, we have no generally accepted theory for that case. We know that general relativity and quantum mechanics are flawed, but within their limitations, they predict well and we will keep both until something better is available. In fact, By 1928 or so, many of the mathematical formulas and rules of quantum mechanics had been put in place and, ever since, it has been used to make the most precise and successful numerical predictions in the history of science. "God did it!" Perhaps true, but what prediction can you make based on that statement? What insight to how the universe works?
