$2000 is not a hard figure. What matters is what kind of visa she has, and how long she will stay in the US. If it is for a short visit, simply having a credit card or a small amount of cash (a few hundred dollars) is sufficient, and she may never be asked. However, if she arrives for a longer stay, the Passport Control Officer will ask her to prove that she has "enough funds" to support her stay in the US. With what you describe, you should go to the US State Department website, download a copy of their "Statement of Support", fill it out, and send it to her. This is a US document that says you will provide her a place to stay, eat, etc... but you will also have to back it with a letter from your employer with your salary, how long you worked there, and what your job is, as well as bank statements to prove you can provide for her. She can NOT get a job unless she has a work permit. Go to the US Embassy website at http://moscow.usembassy.gov/ for information on visas and work permits. The next question would be why you are asking. You do not seem well informed about what it takes to enter the US, and the difficulty of obtaining a visa to the US. A Russian woman does not just decide to hop on a plane and fly to the US. She must apply for a visa, show outbound and inbound plane tickets, accomodations, etc. There is no way to come for an unlimited stay, short of marrying a US citizen (which requires YOU to fly there first) - and of course then YOU have to apply for the visa for her. If you are dealing with a woman you met on the internet, go to http://www.elenasmodels.com and check out her links on internet scams by "Russian women". And for god's sake, do NOT send money.

You have got a lot of things right, good for you, but you are studying us to hard.....that is a turn off. Now you have all this knowledge keep it to yourself and learn from it or you will become a royal pain in the a**e! x Most girls actually do like a little vulnerability cos it makes us feel needed but what we don't like is weakness....fine line. Any girl worth knowing is not attracted to money but we are going to have babies...what we are attracted to is ambition which bring with it security for our children in the years that we have to care for them and can't provide it ourselves. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and obviously handsome guys are often self absorbed and short on conversation...unless it's about them and how good they look. A nice smile, an interesting alert pair of eyes and good conversation are more important. Guys that take care of themselves are attractive - guys obsessed with themselves are NOT. No girl wants to be with a guy who is too interested in how he's looking, clean, casual and sweetly messy is a very sexy look.

I'm a professional journalist with 10+ years experience in a news-agency, in the newspaper Kommersant and now at a business-magazine + many freelance practices now and then, and I've not got any problems with being journalist in Russia.

68 Journalists Killed in 2009 in the whole word. Russia this year is not the second but the fifth deadliest country behind Philippines (a true killing field), Somalia, Iraq and Pakistan. 52 Journalists Killed in Russia since 1992, three this year. This site will give you more information. http://cpj.org/killed/europe/russia/ Of course all those were taking on dangerous people, politicians, mafia, powerful businessmen... If you toe the government line you have absolutely nothing to fear. I haven't heard that journalists were murdered in the US for digging through that kind of thing so I don't understand why you want to switch profession. Unless you just don't care about the job, you only wanted the glamour. In that case I'd better warn you, for one famous journalist you have a hundred unknown working at very unglamorous jobs, badly paid, and praying daily to have their piece accepted and printed / put on TV.

Well said Lupin. An American changes his mind to be a journalist because they dont like journalists in Russia. Relevancy *yawns* is shocking really. Actually it just seems like another question to show the rest, how "bad" it is in Russia and how perfectly good everything is in the west. That said, being a journalist in Russia and poking ur nose into government officials' business, is definitely not the ideal job for your health.Tho how would that affect u in US, is one big funny question mark.
