Please help solve this computer problem? Topic: Problem solving test and answers

Question: So a while back, I left my computer on for about 5 hours while I was away. When I came back, the monitor showed no input signal on startup, and there are no BIOS beeps, though the fans run. The green power light did not come on, and the hard drive light was a solid red. I tried two graphics cards, both showed the same problem, the monitor works fine, and I tried re-seating all the cables as well as getting a new CMOS battery. Just now, I bought a new motherboard. I am usually up at school, and I brought the tower home thinking there was a monitor here, but there was not. However, now on startup I still get not beeps, the fans run, the green power light turns on, but there is only a flash of red from the hard drive light and then nothing. Does this mean it is the CPU that is the problem, what else could it be? The old motherboard was a P6N Diamond, with a 775 socket type. Since it is so old, I will just buy a new CPU and mobo if the CPU is the problem. The mobo I just got which still has not solved the problem is an MSI G41M-P33 Combo. 450W Power supply. GeForce 9600GT. 2x2GB RAM. Windows 8 OEM on a SSD with a HDD installed as well. Thanks for any help!

It might be a corrupted ActiveX control. Disable the ActiveX control. You can disable the ActiveX control by clicking on Tools (top of browser), Add ons, find control, Disable. http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microso... http://www.microsoft.com/security/resour... If that didn't work, uninstall MS Security Essentials and Reinstall again. If no joy, try to perform a Restore from Command Prompt. I know you said System Restore won't work, but have you tried it from Command Prompt? Enter "Safe Mode with Command Prompt". This is the command: rstrui.exe Press Enter. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windo... If Restore still won't run, scan with Malwarebytes again. Sometimes, a removed virus will return immediately, because it hid in a Restore Point. If your malicious files (what were those malicious files?) have returned, you should delete all restore points, then SCAN AGAIN. You delete all restore points by turning off System Protection (System Restore). When the scan comes out clean, turn System Protection back ON. <--DON'T FORGET! Start > Control Panel > System & Maintenance > System > System Protection (on left) > Click a drive > Configure > Turn off system protection > OK >Repeat for each drive. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-System-Restore-on-or-off If that does not resolve the issue, try this... Restart computer and tap F8, as if to enter Safe Mode. Instead of Safe Mode, choose "Last Known Good Configuration". http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Using-Last-Known-Good-Configuration If that does not solve the problem, perform a Disk Check. Start button > Computer > RIGHT-click C > Properties > Tools tab > Check Now > Put Check-mark in both boxes > Start. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors
